News: This Isn’t Good – Judge Dredd Director Locked Out Of Editing Room
Earlier this year, Judge Dredd director Pete Travis was filming out in South Africa. The film has since entered a rather long post-production, and the noises from the folk involved are not good…
Apparently Travis has been locked out of the editing room because of “creative disagreements with producers and executives”. Hm. Writer and producer Alex Garland (The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine) has taken control of post and may even ask for a co-director credit (Really?).
This doesn’t bode well, does it? Dredd’s last big screen outing was the woeful Stallone effort from 1995. I was hoping with the casting of the ace Karl Urban, the insistence on Dredd keeping the iconic helmet in place, and the Die Hard-esque storyline might be enough to push this into the watchable category. That might still happen, but these behind-the-scenes usually have an effect on the on-screen quality of the film.
Judge Dredd is due for release on 21st September 2012.
