News: Thor 2 Has A Director And A New Opening Date

After Kenneth Branagh passed on directing the sequel to his brilliantly fun Thor, there has been much speculation as to whom will pick up the hammer and run with it. Well, speculate no more, my little chums, because Marvel Studios have chosen, and chosen wisely. Patty Jenkins, best known for Monster, the true story of serial killer Aileen Wuornos for which Charlize Theron won an Oscar, has agreed to take the reins for The God Of Thunder’s sequel. She may appear a leftfield choice, but so was Branagh and look how well that turned out. She gets to work with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and interestingly, Tom Hiddlestone, which means Loki is going nowhere after Joss Whedon’s The Avengers.

Along with the announcement Jenkins as director, Marvel Studios revealed that Thor 2′s release has been moved back from July to November 2013. I don’t see this as any big whoop. It gives Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 a chance to breathe in its May 2013 slot, and avoids the big summer movie fatigue that inevitably sets in around then.

Marvel Studios are doing a phenomenal job at the moment. Long may it continue.
