News: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Viral Marketing Leaves Us With More Questions Than Answers
I’m loving The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo‘s marketing campaign. It feels like they’re trying to draw us into Lisbeth Salander’s/Mikael Blomkvist’s investigative minds. Today, Mouth-Taped-Shut (that production blog I’ve mentioned like, a million times) uploaded a YouTube video of the car crash footage, which is a critical element to The Girl‘s story. Check it out.
Okay, nothing special there, you may think… BUT YOU’D BE WRONG! An eagle-eyed fan noticed one of the car registration plates read “GLANCE” in reverse. With some help from fellow commenters on Mouth-Taped-Shut, the worked out to add “backwardglance” to the URL of the recently discovered What Is Hidden In The Snow, Comes Forth In The Thaw website. It briefly brought up this screen with co-ordinates and a countdown.
The co-ordinates were for a place in San Diego, the countdown only for a few hours. The time has since passed and were left just the box-shape on whatishiddeninsnow.com. I have no idea if anyone in San Diego made it to the location, we’ll just have to wait and see what they come up with next… Exciting!
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo opens in the UK on Boxing Day 26th December and will be my Christmas present to myself.
