News: Children Of Men’s Alfonso Cuarón Returns With Gravity
Can you believe it’s been six years since Alfonso Cuarón’s brilliant dystopian tale, Children Of Men? And did you realise he hasn’t directed since? Nope neither did I. That’s far too long. But luckily for us, he’s back and with a film that sounds every bit as interesting.
Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, promises to use groundbreaking 3D techniques and Cuarón’s trademark long takes to make an atmospheric and claustrophobic experience. The synopsis reads like this:
“Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone – tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.
The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth… and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.”
It sounds flipping great. This, along with Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, promises to bring back intelligent sci-fi to cinema screens and has me have massively excited for 2012.
Gravity is tentatively scheduled to hit UK screens on the 19th October.
