News: Beyond The Black Rainbow Trailer Hurts Your Head
Sure, it’s fun to talk about The Avengers or The Dark Knight Rises but sometimes you need a bit of a change. Something that will challenge and/or chasten you. I’m pretty sure that Beyond The Black Rainbow is one of those films. Don’t believe me? Check out the trailer below.
Look at it. Just look at it. This could be super fantastic or the biggest pile of tunky this side Revenge Of The Fallen. That’s what makes it so interesting.
Written and directed by Panos Cosmatos (awesome name), the synopsis reads – “Beyond The Black Rainbow is a Reagan-era fever dream inspired by hazy childhood memories of midnight movies and Saturday morning cartoons. Cosmatos brings a bold, Kubrickian vision to the screen in stunning detail in this sci-fi fable of a young woman imprisoned in an experimental laboratory and the enigmatic scientist who is her captor. Set in a futuristic 1983, Elena finds herself held against her will in a mysterious facility under the watchful eye of the sinister Dr. Barry Nyle. Pushed to her limits, Elena is left with no choice but to navigate an escape from her labyrinthine prison, in the process revealing its hidden secrets.” Mad.
I can’t help but be reminded of Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace when I watch this. Is it all an elaborate spoof? Am I meant to laugh? Is it serious? Is this the Zardoz of my generation? My head hurts.
Beyond The Black Rainbow has no official date for release in the UK but is about to have a limited release in the US before hitting Video On Demand.
