News: The Avengers Vids, Pictures, And Wallpapers Galore!
The Avengers is going great guns in the run up to the release of the film at the end of the month. We’re being thrown character-based vids, tons of new pics, and some fancy wallpapers in a desperate bid to get us to part with our hard-earned cash and carry our hefty frames to the cinema screens. There was no need, we’ve been itching to do it ever since The Avengers was announced. Anyway, let’s check them out.
First up are the new TV spots ‘Suit Up’…
… and ‘Roll Call’. They cover much of the same ground as the main trailer, but giving us the already classic “We have a Hulk” line we heard was back at the Disney Expo in August. Of course, Captain America (Chris Evans) telling Hulk to smash has its own certain charm too.
Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has his own spot rather helpfully titled ‘Throw Down The Hammer’. Love his attitude when he sees Cap and Stark arguing. That’s not all, though. We have a clip from the movie too!
YEAH! Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) faces off against Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in an battle of smarmy wits. It’s right up there with the Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) vid released last week. Now to the pics.
Iron Man! Look at the arc reactor on his chest. The classic circle, not the triangle we see in the majority of the last trailer. Director Joss Whedon was quoted as saying he preferred the circle, thinking the triangle was “ass”. That wrist missile reminds me of the Mark III suit from the original Iron Man movie. Does Tony have to get the old suit out of storage for the battle(s) in The Avengers?
A quinjet onboard the deck of the helicarrier. You can see someone being escorted out of the back by seven security personnel. Is it Loki? We know from earlier pics that Loki is/allows himself to be captured.
Tony Stark handles the tesseract, the McGuffin from Captain America: The First Avenger. It is an object of immeasurable power that Loki wants to get his mitts on.
Stark and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) do sciencey stuff while Steve Rogers engages Tony in a lively debate.
Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) explains the severity of the situation to various heads of state. Possibly. Could be a secret world controlling cabal. I don’t know. Let’s hope that Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. are on the side of freedom.
A rather dapper looking Tony Stark. Maybe he’s come straight from a party.
Loki smirks. Probably up to no good.
Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) chats with Steve Rogers onboard a quinjet. As we know from recent interviews with Gregg, Coulson has something of a fanboy crush on Captain America.
A good look at the swish Stark Tower where the Tony/Loki face-off clip is based. I want to go to there (Yes, I know it doesn’t exist).
A quinjet flies low through the streets of New York City.
Iron Man (Circle arc reactor) lands atop the Stark Tower. Check out the Chrysler Building in the background.
Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and The Hulk stand amid the destruction.
Is this the object that Iron Man flies towards near the end of The Avengers trailer (check it out in the breakdown)? The glow/light/beam is similar to that which is emitted by the tesseract. Has Loki got ahold of it and is using it against New York?
You’ll recognise these last two pics from the clip posted above…
… Loki and Tony Stark face off in the Stark Tower.
Right, there’s the pics done. Now it’s time to have a look at the recently released wallpapers, starting with the promo artwork.
Here’s the Captain.
Thor and Mjolnir.
The Avengers Assembled.
Um, The Avengers again.
The Avengers, more purpley though (can you tell I’m running out of things to say?)
The Avengers, with giant looming Loki head.
Okay, there’s the artwork done. Now to actual real-life proper human photos (well, as real as photoshop allows these days) of The Avengers. If you can ignore the awful corporate tie-in then these are pretty good.
It’s Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill. Yup, it seems we’re covering every character in the film with this update.
Here’s Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson.
Big bad Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury with full-on scarring around his eye.
From one big bad to another. Here’s Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.
Here’s Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. Keep the pouting to a minimum, Ma’am.
Chris Hemsworth, the Aussie beefcake, as Asgardian demigod Thor.
Chris Evans as Captain America, literally an all-American hero.
We can’t see him under the armour, but Robert Downey Jr. is definitely Iron Man.
And lastly, under all the CGI fancy work, Mark Ruffalo is The Hulk.
And there we have it! Quite a round-up, I think you’ll agree. No doubt by the time I wake up tomorrow there’ll be a hundred new videos and pics to pour over and talk about. In the meantime please feel free to leave any thoughts and comments below. They are greatly appreciated.
The Avengers hits UK screens in a couple of very short weeks on the 26th April. I really genuinely can’t wait.
