News: Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity Has Seventeen Minute Long Opening Shot
Back in January we told you of Alfonso Cuarón’s latest feature, Gravity. Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, it tells the tale of a pair of astronauts trapped in the vacuüm of space when their space station suffers an accident and explodes.
At the time it was rumoured the film would contain many of Cuarón’s trademark long takes. Well, at a recent conference Chris DeFaria, an executive producer and VFX lead on many Warner Bros. films including Sucker Punch and I Am Legend (Yes, I know, hardly glittering, but that doesn’t take away from what he has to say), revealed that, yes, the film opens with a seventeen minute long unbroken shot. He also said the film would clock in at two hours and contain many six, eight, and ten minute long takes.
If you saw Cuarón’s last film, the fantastic Children Of Men, you will be well aware of the attack on the car scene above. It is brilliant. Now imagine this for an entire movie. In 3D. Yup, that’s what Cuarón is planning to do. It sounds phenomenal. I can’t wait. Trailer and pics, please!
Gravity is tentatively scheduled to hit UK screens on the 19th October.
