News: New Skyfall Trailer, Olympic TV Spot, Pics, And Clips

As I mentioned last week during my update on The Bourne Legacy, this is a bumper year for those of who enjoy our spy action thrillers. Skyfall is shaping up to be the best Bond film in a very long time (the IMAX trailer is mind-blowing) and the new trailer, released today, only serves to confirm that.

Stunts AND a story arc for James Bond? What’s become of the franchise? Director Sam Mendes has jumped onboard and has dared to take the series forward. We see M (Dame Judi Dench) making a desperate call – “Take the bloody shot” – that results in Bond (Daniel Craig) being taken out by Naomie Harris’s Eve. Betrayed, and drowning his sorrows in a bar, serious things happen back in London that require a return of Bond’s rather unique skill set. The superspy rises?

Here’s our first official look at Javier Bardem’s Silva, the film’s big bad, and he appears to be having a lot of fun with the role. Here’s hoping he’s a villain who can give Bond a serious run for his money (even if we’re certain how it’ll all finish).

Bond also made an appearance in the opening ceremony for London’s Olympic Games, leaping from a helicopter with The Queen. This TV spot was released in the US with NBC’s coverage.

As we saw from the trailer, Q is back, this time played by Ben Whishaw. There’s also a return of the more playful relationship between the two, Q ribbing Bond on his old school methods of spying, while Bond takes umbrage at Q’s age.
