News: The Wachowskis Return With Cloud Atlas Six Minute Trailer
I’ve mentioned a few times how I’d like to see a return of the intelligent sci-fi blockbuster. This year we’ve had the somewhat disappointing Prometheus, and I’ve talked a few times about Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity, which unfortunately been delayed until 2013. So, it’s up to the returning Wachowskis, joined by Tom Twyker, to take up the cause with Cloud Atlas.
So I guess this a sprawling epic about how many ridiculous haircuts Tom Hanks can fit into one film? Look, I’m not gonna lie, The Wachowskis lost me with utterly abysmal Matrix Revolutions. I gave Speed Racer a go, but it was a dizzying mess. This trailer does nothing to inspire me into thinking that Cloud Atlas will be any different. To my eyes this looks like The Matrix via Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain at best.
Cloud Atlas is based on David Mitchell’s uniquely structured novel of initially unlinked stories that eventually come together to form an interesting whole. Probably. I don’t know for sure, I haven’t read it. I know you expect better of your bloggers, but hey, I’ve had Batman films to watch.
Cloud Atlas, starring a stellar cast of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent, Ben Whishaw, and Bae Doona, is set to hit screens in the US from the 26th October, and internationally sometime in early 2013.
