News: Joss Whedon Returns For The Avengers 2!
There’s some fantastic news for those of us who enjoyed The Avengers - Director Joss Whedon has signed up to write and direct the inevitable follow-up! Announced at a Disney Investors Conference, Whedon will also have some involvement in ABC’s live-action TV series based within the Marvel movie universe.
Considering Marvel Studios treatment of its previous directors (Jon Favreau, Kenneth Brannagh…), some of us had our worries that Marvel would drop Whedon for a cheaper, more agreeable option. The commercial and critical success of The Avengers has hopefully showed them what a mistake that would be. We’ve known for years about his love and respect for the characters, and he obviously has a fantastic chemistry with the cast, so this appears to be a win/win scenario for all.
The Avengers 2 has a roughly pencilled released date of summer 2015, but for now we’ll just have to wait for any official announcements.
