I know nearly every review for the film will make mention of this so I’m going to get it out of the way at the start – Prometheus sees Ridley Scott’s long-awaited return to sci-fi, a genre where he made such stone-cold classics as Alien and Blade Runner. Can Prometheus possibly live up to such a lofty billing, or will it be fanboy crushing damp squib like a certain Phantom Menace? Read on and find out.
The release of Prometheus (here in the UK, at least) is only two days away. The first reviews are out and doing the rounds. Here are the thoughts of The Hollywood Reporter, Empire, and Total Film if you want to know if the film lives up to the hype. Beware of spoilers, of course. This not the new Prometheus poster, by the way. This is the teaser poster from before Christmas when the marketing for the film was still going for the subtle and mysterious, not the “let’s show them EVERYTHING so there’s no drama or surprises left when they go to the cinema to see it” we’re getting now. Maybe, just maybe, we’re not being shown everything and Ridley Scott’s return to sci-fi will shock and surprise like his original Alien did. We live in hope.

This past weekend Channel Four, a broadcaster here in the UK, had the world exclusive first showing of the brand new three-minute long international trailer for Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated return to science fiction. Having watched the trailer air live, I have to admit I was a little disappointed that it was it was so full of apparent spoilers. It might be the film is so awesome that these reveals matter not a jot, but I thought I should warn you before you view it, just in case.
This is the third viral video we’ve discovered from Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. The first was the fantastic TED talk by Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), where he spoke of the possibility of space exploration and artificial life.
